Personal profile

Dr. Brian McShane is Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Criminal Justice and an experienced researcher working with children and young people. Research interests include: masculinities and gender - emotions and the body  - violence, explotation and prevention - social and youth justice policy.

Dr. McShane has conducted funded research with a range of organisations including Youth Justice Services in London, Coventry, and Leicester and the Youth Endowment Fund. He has previous practice experience working in local government and youth work teams on violence reduction programmes. Current and recently completed research projects have looked at: young people, SEND and exploitation - violence prevention provision in England and Wales  - the effectiveness of non-statutory provision by youth justice services  - young people’s experiences of violence.
