Justin Dobson BSc PGCLTHE PGDip MSc RN
Justin joined Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº (Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº) in 2015 as a Senior Lecturer in Nursing and registered as an Adult Nurse in 2001 after completing a BSc in Nursing at Coventry University. In 2003, he joined the Leicester Royal Infirmary as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Ophthalmology, where he led and managed the Eye Emergency Service. He progressed into NHS management in 2009, undertaking a range of service improvement projects including commissioning, capacity planning, and project management.
Justin was appointed as Clinical Matron and Practice Development Lead at South Warwickshire NHS Trust in 2013, focusing on leadership, education, recruitment and professional development, and led the preceptorship programme for newly qualified nursing staff. The following year, he returned to Leicester Royal Infirmary to work in operations and service management, and was responsible for leading enablement workstreams for the new emergency department, and development and relocation of the Diabetes centre at the Leicester General Hospital before taking up his academic role at Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº.
He teaches healthcare leadership, management, service development, and professional advocacy across a range of post-registration programmes within the School of Nursing and Midwifery. He has used his experience as a senior NHS manager and clinical leader to deliver workshops on values-based leadership to university managers, and worked with organisational development consultants on embedding the Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº management values. He is a member of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences Equality and Diversity Committee, leading on the theme of culture.
A strong advocate for staff, Justin is an active member of the University and College Union (UCU), serving as a committee member, casework coordinator, and trade union Health and Safety representative.
