Advanced Principles and Practice of Gastroenterology and Hepatology
This module explores specialist knowledge, practice and attitudes that underpin enhancing gastroenterology and liver disease by promoting assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation resulting in the enhancement of health care.
Module Learning Outcomes
1. Review the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal tract, liver and related organs.
2. Critically assess and evaluate the underpinning evidence relating to the management of gastroenterology and liver disease
3. Critically review the impact of psychological, social, economic and political factors on the organisation of services for the patient with gastrointestinal / liver disease.
4. Critically consider clinical practice / professional accountability in gastroenterology and liver disease
5. Reflect upon values, attitudes and beliefs in the delivery of gastroenterology and liver disease.
Entry criteria
- Effective registration with an appropriate Professional Statutory Regulatory Body (PSRB) in health care, such as NMC or HCPC
- Minimum 12 months post-registration experience, normally within a health practice setting
- Possess BSc (Hons) 2:2 degree award minimum
- IELTS 6.5 in all criteria
Non-Standard
- Minimum of three years post-registration experience, normally within a health practice setting
- Possess a BSc or 60 credits equivalent at level 6 which must include a research module (or equivalent)
- Applicants who fall short of the above entry requirements may use the RPL mechanism to contribute towards the above criteria at the discretion of the Programme Leader

This course begins on 2 February 2024runs each Friday for 10 consecutive weeks.
Both running together next in Spring 2026. The module is delivered face to face. There are x 10 sessions and you must attend a minimum 8/10 sessions, ideally 10/10. Assessment is via a 3000-word / 4000-word assignment (due May 2026). Dates are each Friday starting 23/1/26, for x 10 consecutive weeks all 9am to 1pm. This will be in Edith Murphy House (main Âé¶¹Ó°Ôº campus). Room TBC.
