Wellbeing is an integral part of your journey as a Â鶹ӰԺ student. It ensures that you are happy, and able to complete your course to the best of your abilities.
Mind to the UK Parliament stated that “men and boys from Global Majority communities are more likely to experience severe mental ill health but less likely to access the support they need”. Addressing the inequality is therefore integral to people across the UK.
Now, a new initiative aims to create a space to address this inequality, and champion student wellbeing. Grounded Men came about following Â鶹ӰԺ’s Black Men on the Couch event as part of Black History Month 2024. The event brought together prominent Black men with a connection to Leicester or Â鶹ӰԺ, with the aim of addressing the stigma of mental health.

A space for reflection
Following the success of Black Men on the Couch, the conversation to reduce the stigma needs to continue. That’s where Grounded Men comes in. Starting this academic year, Grounded men will bring together students to discuss their mental health in a safe space.
It will encourage conversations between you and others about issues you may be facing, and to share experiences. This community, working with Â鶹ӰԺ’s wellbeing team, can help to challenge inequalities, and promote positive mental health discussions.
Getting involved
If you’re interested in joining Grounded Men, . A member of the team will be in touch to let you know when and where the next event will be held.
There are also other wellbeing services available at Â鶹ӰԺ which you can find on the Healthy Â鶹ӰԺ Pages.
